My Body His Temple

Our bodies are the temple of the Lord’s. He has entrusted it to us.

Imagine; you’re a spirit floating around and God says “I’m giving you a body to wear, look after it and care for it because it’s mine!”

How are you taking care of the temple/body God has lent you? It’s something to think about.

We don’t focus on the negativity here, we like to focus on the possible. So what positive changes can we make today and everyday to make God pleased with how we care for our bodies?

Rest – God loves us so much, He gives us – His beloved – sleep (It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep Psalm 127:2).  Don’t feel like you have to be busy all the time.  Just like you schedule meetings, schedule rest.  You will actually function better.

Eat well – Whenever I struggle to eat well I turn to (I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Philippians 4:13) and I say “Lord strengthen me”.  It’s so much easier to walk away.  Don’t just give God the big stuff, He’s interested in the detail too.  He cares, He’s interested and yes He’s a High Priest but in that role He’s also touched with the feelings of our infirmities; He can empathize, sympathize and is in-touch with our reality.  We actually have small stomachs, if we’ve trained it to eat large portions, we can also train it to eat small portions.

Exercise – 1 Timothy 4:8 is the scripture that comes to mind when I think of what the Bible says about exercise (For bodily exercise profiteth little).  But it didn’t say it profiteth nothing, it said little.  So, according to the Word, there is some profit in exercise.  Allowing yourself to work up a sweat a few times a week keeps your heart, lungs, muscles and body healthy.

Pray about it – Remember, God gave you the temple and He knows YOUR BODY better than any doctor.  My late Mother-in-love was talking to a foot specialist about her toe.  The specialist said “I know what I’m talking about I’ve seen hundreds of toes” but she said “…you haven’t seen MY toe!”  This always tickles me when I think about it; she was right.

God knows us inside out and He is the best one to lead us in the proper care of this body, He has entrusted into our care for this time.

Does any of this resonate with you?  This is my list, do you have anything to add?  Comment below…
